GFH Module 1-William Fleming- HSC 230

The games for health that I played seemed pretty interesting. They try to test your knowledge of certain health aspects. The games can also give you knowledge to help your daily life. I really liked the Sex Phrases & Sexy Singing and Gut Check games. These games gave the players good information about health topics and a game like Gut Check helps players to see what its like dealing with insurance companies and what a good provider would be.

SWOT analysis: Sex phrases & Sexy Singing

Strengths: Gives players knowledge of how word of mouth information can be distorted and mixed up really easily. It also shows players how much sex phrases we use and say without even noticing. Its important to recognize when we do because we can offend anyone and god forbid someone gets offended in today’s society.

Weaknesses: Doesn’t give players another form of communication they can use to try to stop word of mouth communication. Also, this game is not as informative as other games and knowing about sex phrases that go unnoticed don’t really help society.

Opportunities: This game has opportunities in many middle school health classes or after school programs. This game in my opinion won’t work at a higher level.

Threats: One threat this game poses is that a younger crowed will think the sex talk will be funny and they won’t get the knowledge they need to out of the game.

Reflection #3

Mobile gaming: There’s so many advantages to fitness gaming and also wearable fitness trackers. Video games that allow children and teenagers to get up and be active can be crucial in aiding the obesity epidemic. Technology is built into children’s way of life so adapting to their interests like making games that are interactive and physical, but also fun can be really beneficial to kid’s and teenager’s overall health. The main goal is to have our younger population become less sedentary, so we should take advantage of the technology we have to make that a reality. Fitness or active video games can have many benefits such as better cognitive and problem solving skills as well as better social skills when the games include an online aspect to them. I do feel though that it is hard to get fitness games inside the home because many fitness games require space that many don’t have or don’t want to sacrifice for a game. If we set up interactive and physical gaming arcades there could be more of a realistic setting and also give and amusement feel to the games because you are getting out of the house to go do something.

Wearable fitness trackers and phone apps can also help aid people in designing programs for individuals to use to get healthy. Giving people statistics over a time frame can also help motivate them if they are seeing results. Sensors and trackers allow you to be more independent with your health and be more aware of your progress.

Social media enabling change: One of the most preventable leading causes of death in the U.S is smoking. Through the power of technology and information, people are trying the decrease the death rate caused from smoking. Tweeting and putting anti smoking propaganda on other social media outlets have caused a curve in the amount of smokers in today’s generation. Social Media can even have support pages or groups that help former addicts get clean and stay clean.

New Technology Allows Office Workers to Stand While Working

Many people have jobs that don’t allow them to get much activity during the day. When their shift is over and they’re tired, it’s going to be even harder to want to go the gym or get some physical activity. With the Smart Desk, people with office jobs will be able to stand on their feet more often and be more active. The Smart Desk allows people to adjust their desk so they can stay working while standing up, and they can adjust it back if they want to sit back down. Sitting down all day leads to many of people’s health problems because they aren’t getting enough physical activity. It’s a small change to people’s day but it all adds up in the end.

Pills May be a Thing of the Past

Taking pills may soon be a thing of the past. its breathtaking what engineers are inventing. Scientists are working to develop a microchip that can be preloaded with medication and inserted into the body. people will no longer have to remember to take their pills because the microchip will automatically dispense the medication at the right time. A doctor would be able to adjust the dose or stop it altogether by remote control.                 This is a great new technology in the healthcare industry because there’s a lot of people who forget to take their pills or refuse to take them which causes life-threatening situations. By having a microchip giving them their dose of medication eliminates that aspect.                                                                                                                                                                 I don’t know how I would feel having a microchip implanted into my body. I would want to make sure that the microchip wont have any defects that will release too much medication into my body. I would also want to know if the chip being in my body will cause any health problems like an infection.

HDR Photography

HDR photography is a great tool that can bring out the best in your photos. It’s a setting on your camera that allows you to take pictures that have a much more luminous effect which can really make objects pop out in your pictures. I’ve learned that it can make your pictures seem less bland and stand out more to a viewer.
